With the implementation of the “Say Dyslexia” Law and ILPD’s, how can teachers best identify and assist our students showing dyslexia specific characteristics? We will look at the definition of dyslexia and characteristics teachers may see in the classroom. Using Orton-Gillingham strategies, we will give you more tools for your toolbox in blending, multi-sensory techniques, the short vowel intensive drill, syllable types, successful word and sentence writing, and teaching “red words” (undecodable words).

Since the state of TN changed the requirements for Gifted eligibility a few years ago, we are seeing more students with Twice Exceptionality and difficulty with social-emotional regulation often due to their high levels of intelligence that make them appear different from other kids their age. This will be a playground for teachers to come in and play in Canvas. We will be there to support teachers with any questions they may have. We will also go over how to create assignments, quizzes, newsletters and designing new pages for the upcoming year, if time allows.
